My name is Can Duruk. I lead the product engineering team at Modal . I am the former CTO and co-founder of Felt . Previously, I worked at tech companies small and large, such as Digg , Upthere , and Uber .

Off By One is where I write about what I think is interesting. Previously, you might have read my work on Margins , or The New York Times . I'm also active on Twitter/X as @can where I post bad jokes and vanity license plates.

I live in New York, and am originally from Turkey. The name is Turkish and pronounced almost exactly like "John".

It's called Off By One because I think the truth is always fleeting. Also, it's funny.
